Sign Sabathia? Why not, it’s the American way

The common wisdom is that the Angels need to go after a big bat, and the logic is there, given that the Angels have great pitching and mediocre hitting. So why should the Angels spend their money on C.C. Sabathia? It’s the American way. Why settle for four great starters when you can have five? This is America, the land of capitalism. Did Microsoft, Exxon-Mobil and Walmart say to themselves, “Well, we’ve already made billions, let’s cease now, that’s good enough”? Of course not. There’s always

Apparently, coaches don?t think the games matter

Apparently, coaches don?t think the games matter The Memphis Edge December 1st, 2008 I must say, I have rarely been horrified by a poll as much as I’m horrified by today’s ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ poll. Bottom line, it’s trash. I’m OK with teams 1-8, though my top 25 ballot looked a bit different. At No. 9, though, we start to have problems. - It takes a major jump of faith to rank UCLA in the top-10 after losing to Michigan on a neutral court (I have them 16) - Especially when No. 1

It's all academic for Hawks: Building for spring on lessons learned in fall

It's Monday, and I have every the answers ... The way the circus trips started for the Bulls and Blackhawks, I never thought they'd each win three games. For the Bulls, it's remarkable. For the Hawks, unacceptable. The Hawks won the first three games, and then got nothing. Even if you give Anaheim and San Jose credit for being better, tougher or more disciplined teams, the Hawks at least should have beaten the Kings to end the trip. But no. The Hawks gave up four straight goals, three of them

BIG EAST NEWS & NOTES (12/1/2008) December 1st, 2008 The Big East was 3-2 on Sunday, with Georgetown blowing out Maryland and Notre Dame and Rutgers earning easy wins over lesser opponents. Pack, Heels, Demon Deacons all roll Sunday in men’s ACCtion

RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State senior Ben McCauley is focused on only one thing right now: getting rebounds. Sure, points tend to follow, especially when those rebounds are on the offensive end of the floor. But McCauley knew coming into this season, without the presence of forward-middle J.J. Hickson in the Wolfpack lineup, that he had to establish himself as a powerful rebounder. For the last two games, including Sunday afternoon’s 79-52 victory over UNC Greensboro at the RBC middle, McCauley has

2008 SNOWBALL EXPRESS (Christmas is for Children)

Snowball Express started in early 2006 with a simple idea: America should honor and pay tribute to the kids of those military fallen heroes who have died while honorably serving since 9/11. In December of 2006, nearly 900 family members from every across America and the world gathered in Southern California for an unforgettable holiday gathering. Kids and widows discovered they weren't alone. And they found they weren't forgotten. It was a totally volunteer effort which came together in just
